Remains, Marcia Espinosa and Marina Kailis

@ Paper Mountain, upstairs 267 William St, Northbridge, WA.

8 July – 23 July

Peeking behind the curtain, my interests have been peaked,

as an altar prays for penance and I’m menaced by belief.

Ceramic pagan rituals awe me from a far,

as pale individuals, beckon me with charm.

I’m harrowed closer to every sculpture,

searching these “Remains”.

I’ve burrowed into a paper mountain,

and unearthed symbolic change.

To my left a sculpted tradition, coins to pay their toll,

I marvel at this marble transition, poised by clay and gold.

These beheaded recognitions await death on crystal stands,

Instead of joining a gaze of glaze they resist eternal end.

Every other piece glares in unity and direction,

burnishing towards the light, expecting my attention.

I’m shivering in the center, my perspective altered, humble,

As a shrine demands tribute, I’m stained by offered baubles.

This army of existence is a temple of tempting thought,

I pan around the room, the room’s plan is well explored.

A wash of porcelain whites, broken by reds and blues,

the contrasted positioning of omens rough and smooth.

I have faith in this curation, a journey well presented,

slightly out of symmetry but balanced when collected.

When I thought of coming to this exhibition the adverts were kind of bland

A pile of sculpted tiles, gathered second hand.

But inside I’m overwhelmed, theories reduced to element,

metaphors are molded by fire, the artist’s touch is relevant.

Go and see what “Remains” at Paper Mountain before it ends,

for this exhibition won’t be eternal and neither is our tense.
